The major focus of Microbiology and Molecular Biology department is the detection of infectious diseases by employing conventional and extremely sensitive methodologies like polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and florescence based technologies.

Bacteriology unit: The services of the department cover the complete range of diagnostic microbiology of bacteria, TB Culture and a limited range of viral antigen detection.Molecular biology unit: main task is the quantitative (HIV and HCV) and qualitative measurement of viral nucleic acid (HIV DNA PCR) with respect to therapy monitoring and initial diagnosis, respectively, with automated sample preparation instrument.
